Malting barley

06/01/2019

Barley has big importance in the production of beer. Most prized varieties for this is double row barley with filled and well-aligned grain size. To gain high quality beer it is necessary to have grain with specific biochemical structure provided by a combination of three factors: malting variety, corresponding soil and climatic conditions of growing technology. Basic requirements for grain quality for the brewery objectives are following:

  • Grain must be healthy, uniform, clean, have a pleasant smell of fresh straw, light yellow or yellow. Gray, reddish yellow, yellow-brown and yellow with black tips grain color indicates harvesting barley in the rainy period. Dark brown tips of barley and the extremities of caryopsides - a sign of raw storage facility. Immature grains of barley have greenish pattern. Grey-mat and bluish pattern is caused by mold. Gathered in rainy weather and badly preserved barley gets mildew, musty and malt smell and thus it is unsuitable for brewing.
  • Foreign material is allowed up to 1%, grain admixture - to 2%, small grains - up to 5%.
  • The grain of malting barley should have increased content of starch (60-70%) and extractives (78-82%).
  • The content of protein has to be low – 9-11%. Too high content of protein lead to hardships in filtration on brewing factory, and also to deterioration of beer quality. For harvest formation of barley for brewing objectives nitrogen fertilizers should be used carefully, using it only for the formation of crop harvest and other nutrients is necessary to use in full degree, including micronutrients.

Increasing the harvesting, because this period laying of the number of grains in ear occurs, improving grain quality indexes of brewing by moderate nitrogen nutrition and enhanced phosphorus-calcium (reducing the content of protein and, as the result – increasing the content of starch.

Consumption rate of working solution is 200-300 l/ha.

It is advisable to combine feeding with the introduction of crop protection and urea (if necessary).

If necessary, it is recommended to use «ROSTOK» Cooper and «ROSTOK» Boron.

The content of nutrients in fertilizers «UAROSTOK»® and doses of entering are designed according to the needs of plants in the components during a period of growth and development.

The use of fertilizers «UAROSTOK»®  promotes:

  • improving the vitality of seeds;
  • stimulating plant growth and development;
  • strengthening plant resistance to diseases;
  • enhancing of efficient tillering;
  • improving the quality indexes of seed for brewing objectives;
  • • increasing the harvesting of crop by 10-15%.
